Transportkompagniet Nord A/S, which developed into one of the leading transport and freight forwarding companies in Denmark, was founded on November 17, 1927, and three years later was acquired by the company’s CEO Frode Hedorf.

Frode Hedorf, in consultation with his legal advisor Professor Jan Kobbernagel, decided that his estate should be transferred to a foundation, whose official name was General Consuless Anna Hedorf and Consul General Frode Hedorf’s Foundation.

The basis of the Foundation’s capital consists partly of the assets that were transferred to the Foundation at the end of Frode Hedorf’s estate in 1961 and partly of the profits accumulated over the years in Transportkompagniet Nord A/S. This company was sold in 1992 to ASG AB, which in 1999 was sold to Danzas AG. In 2002, Deutsche Post acquired both Danzas and DHL and merged the two companies under the DHL name.

The freight forwarding activities continue to be operated by DHL Freight (Denmark) A/S.

In 1988, the subsidiary Hedorf A/S was established to manage the Foundation’s investments, including the operation of Hedorf College.

Since 1994, the Foundation has awarded Hedorf’s Foundation Research Prize for International Business Communication and Language every two years (discontinued 2018) and since 2005 – also every two years – Hedorf’s Foundation Prize for Transportation Research.

Furthermore, Hedorf’s Foundation provides support for commercial and transportation studies abroad as well as research projects and other areas of focus within commerce and transportation.

Hedorf’s Kollegium was completed in 2009 and is located at Flintholm Station in Frederiksberg. The dormitory offers 52 apartments for Danish and international students.

The foundation’s board of directors is composed of CEO Lars Frederiksen, who is elected by the board, CEO Sven Buhrkall, appointed by the Danish Chamber of Commerce, and CEO Torben Møger Pedersen, appointed by the Danish Society of Education and Business. Director Torben Møger Pedersen, appointed by the Danish Society for Education and Business, formerly the Association of Young Merchants’ Education.
